Position Title: Bus Driver Department: Transportation Reports To: Transportation Supervisor Wage/Benefits: Glen Lake Bus Driver Contract - MEA/NEA Job Summary: Safely and reliably transport and assist students and other school district passengers to and from school, educational or sporting events, community-based programs and other special activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following duties, knowledge and skills. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to work at their assigned location and work times. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job. Other essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to the following: A. Performance Abilities - Responsibilities: 1. Operate all types of vehicles in the fleet to transport pupils. 2. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of your assigned vehicle as required. 3. Familiarity with the geographic service area of the District. 4. Knowledge of local, state, and federal rules, regulations, ordinances, and laws regarding school bus operation. 5. Alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles, and abnormal driving conditions. Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required. 6. Follow established schedules/routes. 7. Maintain appropriate fuel level of vehicle. 8. Maintain an acceptable standard of cleanliness of vehicle. 9. Monitor mechanical condition of vehicle per trip. Reporting deficiencies to Mechanic using Daily Inspection Reports. 10. Drive safely and defensively at all times. 11. Maintain behavior logs as directed by the Superintendent or his/her designee. 12. Prepare and submit Bus Conduct Reports to the Superintendent or his/her designee. 13. May be requested to attend parent meetings by the Superintendent or his/her designee. 14. Establish and maintain acceptable working relationships with other drivers, maintenance personnel, bus attendants, teachers, students, principals and community. 15. Exhibit a positive image as a representative of the Glen Lake Community School District. Legal Education/knowledge Requirements: 1. Must be 18 years of age. 2. Commercial Driver License CDL group B with P & S endorsements. 3. Pass DOT physical examination requirements 4. Meet District/Michigan Department of Education competency levels of driving skills. 5. Meet Michigan Department of Education (MDE) standards of past driving performance. 6. Meet Federal DOT drug/alcohol testing requirements. Qualifications: 1. Enjoy working with children of all ages and be sensitive to their needs. 2. Excellent moral character and personal habits. 3. Emotionally stable, dependable, neat, clean and professional. 4. Possess qualities of initiative, self-reliance and leadership. 5. Free from adverse effects of medication, alcohol, and drugs. 6. Use respectable language at all times. 7. Complete and pass first aid instruction to include C.P.R. 8. High school graduate or equivalent. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Superintendent.
