Suttons Bay School is looking for a Certified Special Education Teacher to work primarily with grades 6-8. This position will start for the fall 2024-25 school year. Candidates should be student-centered problem solvers with a strong desire to create a positive and joyful learning experience for all students. Candidates must have experience in establishing meaningful relationships and developing a positive rapport with their students, parents, and other staff members.  Our ideal candidates are also fiercely resilient educators that find innovative ways to motivate students to engage with our online school community. This is a permanent full-time position.  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid and current teaching certificate with a K-12 Special Education Endorsement from the State of Michigan.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience and/or student teaching.
  • Experience teaching in an online platform is preferred, but not required.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
  • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.
  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
  • Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis on individualized instruction
  • Conducts special education evaluations and re-evaluations.
  • Provides direction, supervision, and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
  • Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Completes all district and state reporting requirements.
  • Effective communication with students, staff, administration, parents, and community members.
  • Strong technology literacy and data collection methods.
  • Professional appearance and regular attendance at school-sponsored events and activities.
  • Keen awareness of responsibilities for confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of highly effective classroom management strategies and instructional practices as well as the ability to implement those concepts in a classroom setting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

 

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time salary and health benefits are provided per the SBEA Contract which can be found HERE. *Please note that the district is currently in contract negotiations our SBEA and hopes to have a ratified contract later this spring which will include updates to Schedule A and B.
